I hope you guys are having a great weekend! I don’t know about your college, but at mine, it’s test week. I have three tests coming up next week, and I am not looking forward to them! Anyway, today I’m going to give you my best college organization tips that have helped me to make time for schoolwork and relationships.
P.s. There is a secret bonus tip at the end! It is the best one on the whole list so don’t miss it!
1. Check Your Syllabus
You remember that thing? Well, that little piece of paper is actually pretty valuable. It literally tells you what the next few months of your life are going to look like, and that is a big deal. Because once you know when big assignments and tests will be, you can start scheduling the fun stuff!
2. Invest in a Planner
These babies are pretty cheap and can be a life saver if you use them properly. I got my planner on sale at target just after school started. Once you get both your planner and your syllabi, I recommend penciling in (Keyword: pencil!) assignment due dates and test dates from each of your syllabi to your planner. This will really help you get a good look at when you should start studying for these test.
3. Keep Your Room Clean
This one is pretty important. Let’s say you’re running late for class, and all of a sudden you realize that you can’t find your chemistry homework. First of all, if you are taking chemistry, I feel your pain. Second of all, if your room were cleaner perhaps you would be able to find it easier and not have to book it to make it to class in time! Also, I don’t know if you’re school makes you do this, but at the beginning of every year, my college makes everyone watch a fire safety video. Basically, clean room = less fire hazard.
4. Use Separate Notebooks
In college, you’re going to be taking a bunch of notes. Seriously, the amount of notes you take is ridiculous. I think the best way to stay organized is to keep a separate notebook, binder, or word document for each class. Whichever of these works best for you, go for it! Personally, I prefer to type my notes, but that is mostly because I write like a boy. It’s rough, to say the least.
5. Make Lists
You guys will hear me say this over and over again. Need to get some things done? Need to make sure you buy the right groceries? Make a list! I usually write the things I need to do in my iPhone’s reminder app and set the reminder alarm for a time when I know I shouldn’t be busy! This process usually works pretty well for me.
6. Invest in Storage Items
Honestly, I have no clue how these colleges expect us to be able to fit all of our clothes into the tiny little dressers that they provide. In order to have enough space, I bought two three drawer plastic containers as well as one mini three drawer container. To keep them from looking so lame, I spray painted them, and drew a few little designs on them! Voila! Instant semi-fancy drawers on a budget!
